Lettering Exploration

—Personal exploration of lettering

Lettering Explorations

My biggest passion is lettering and typography. The craft involved, the printing, the experimentation, the refining process—all of that challenges me in ways that bolster my critical thinking where other mediums fall short. To me, process is the best part about this art. It slows you down and forces you to reconsider your options, bringing out your most creative side. It's basically my jam.

In most cases, I start from a simple thumbnail, and—if I see any merit to the composition—I'll blow it up and start exploring the details. Oftentimes, the initial thumbnail will be completely different from the final concept. When the draft gives me a better idea of how to execute, I'll bring it into Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop and see how I can further expand, whether by color, composition, or value.
