Greater Ozarks Pridefest

—GLO Center Springfield, MO

Springfield, Missouri is a city where heritage and tradition coincides with self-discovery and shifting culture. Given these principles (and those who live by them) can often be at odds with each other, the challenge to overcome this was finding a compromise. Given that this Pridefest was for the city and its surrounding area, it had to appeal to rural residents uninterested in city life as well. So, using the principles of south-central folk lettering style you might see in a state fair, I designed a whimsical logotype that envokes a nostalgia that LGBTQIA+ and their allies grew up with in the Ozarks.

Greater Ozarks Pridefest needed to have an entirely new branded approach that could be adapted for several placements and mediums, just as one normally expects from a organization. However, one of the more interesting problems was finding ways to give sponsorship placements, event schedules that people wouldn't immediately throw away, and finding ways to keep people present during the hot, June weather. All of that needed to be done within a very meager budget. So, my solution was to solve all three problems with an object: a fan. This allowed us to offer substantial value to sponsors by having their brands in front of visitors at all times, but it also added utility to what could have otherwise been a brochure-style event schedule.

In order to bolster engagement and give people a proper hashtag use, I designed several profile photos for people to grab, with various flags they could identify with, true to the spirit of Pridefest.
